Recycling In Bosnia And Herzegovina: Lets Turn A Waste Into Resource

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 150,000 tons of plastic waste is produced annually, of which only 2 percent is recycled, while 98 percent ends up in landfills or worse, somewhere in nature, where it will remain for several hundred years.  The growing awareness of plastic pollution and its impact on the environment has indeed disrupted recycling and waste management conversations worldwide. The staggering statistics regarding plastic waste highlight the urgency to reevaluate current recycling systems and find more effective solutions. The EU has set ambitious recycling targets and encourages member states and candidate countries to implement effective recycling systems.

By focusing on increasing recycling rates and implementing measures like the Deposit Return System, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a candidate country for EU membership, can make significant strides towards a more sustainable future, improve waste management practices, and align itself with European standards.
